Don’t Set Yourself Up

I know many Birdland residents, myself included want to be at the parade on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 (more information here). A word of advice. If you plan on cutting, skipping, calling in sick or making up some kind of excuse to get out of school or work to attend, then make sure you think first.

  • Don't get caught on camera where it'll be shown on the 6 o'clock news.
  • Don't post on social media what you're doing if you don't want certain people (i.e. your boss or teachers) to find out.
  • Don't go into work or school the next day and brag about what you've done.

Now if you can legitimately get out of your obligations, then you don't have to worry about these things. If you can't….well, it never fails that there is one person who cuts class to attend and gets caught because he had to grab the reporter's microphone and give a shout out OR had to say something on Facebook.

Things you put on the Internet and pictures taken in public are well…public – social media being the possible exception but you better check your privacy settings three times (hint: can people tag you or share your status or photo?).

I'm not encouraging anyone to lie or be deceptive. In fact, just take a vacation day or ask your parents if you can go. *shrug*
I'm just saying that if you're going to go to those extremes then use your common sense.

You Ought to Know: If something is supposed to be a secret, then posting or talking about it doesn't keep it secret.
